About the name “Giant Green Iguana”
Unfortunately, the green iguana (iguana iguana) has become a disposable pet. Hatchling iguanas are plentiful and inexpensive. Many people impulsively buy cute little baby iguanas, not realizing that adult iguanas grow to five or six feet in length.
Therefore, some iguana people have started using the term “Giant Green Iguana”. The hope is that the term may cause potential ig owners to decide whether they really want a giant lizard. It should also be noted that there is no such
thing as a “dwarf” green iguana—no matter what pet store personnel and others may tell you. And keeping a giant green iguana in a small enclosure will NOT keep it from growing—that results in a sick and unhealthy lizard.
